Here is an opportunity as rare as lockdown. Your chance to ask a fat-faced bloke with crap hair absolutely anything you want, and he is obliged to answer.

Unless, that is, you are being rude or impertinent, or particularly irrelevant, or pretending to be an innocent participant while working in secret for a marketing agency, in which case he won't.

And, inevitably, as you work your way down through the small print of this once-in-a-lifetime proposition, it becomes ever less appealing. It's a bit like one of those souvenir plates featuring the face of someone from the royal family, which you pay for through a crippling monthly direct debit that will be inherited by your grandchildren long after you're gone.

He's only going to answer five questions. Which five, I hear you cry, from the misery of your confinement? That's where you come in (or go out, if you've already had enough of this).

Simply leave your question in the comments section below. Once you've posted, you're duty bound to award one of the other questions a TribeCoin badge. In a couple of weeks we'll find the five questions with the most awards and May will answer them right here on DriveTribe (Unless they're inappropriate - see above).

If you need more TribeCoin simply click on the golden C in the top right of your screen. And you can read our Guide to TribeCoin if you are of a suspicious nature and you think we're going to steal your identity and sell it to a foreign superpower.

Please be aware that this page is governed by an elaborate algorithm. Anyone who types 'What's the best car you've ever driven?' will be automatically barred from DriveTribe, for eternity.

  • Why is it when you transport something by ship, it’s called ‘cargo’ but if you transport something by car, it’s called a ‘shipment’?

    • I am curious of this as well. I suspect it has something to do with old english and receiving a shipment from abroad which was transported by an actual ship.

    • To add to this, why does one drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?

  • May, this isn’t the topic of cars. My fiancé and I spent MANY date nights watching you and your adventures. We always said if we could have a celebrity at our wedding..it would be you three. SO MY QUESTION: would you care for in invitation to a wedding just outside of Dallas, Texas. December 21st 2021?

  • What's your best memory from working on Top Gear?

    • It’s actually from Grand Tour, if that’s allowed. It was during our Namibian beach-buggy adventure. We turned in-land to make our way from the beach to Windhoek, and my car faltered because of some crap in the distributor (old Beetle...

  • Hi James, my name is Rahil and I’m a 14 year old living in London. When I grow up, I would absolutely love to become a full time motoring journalist but I just don’t know how to get out there if you know what I mean. If you read this, then well thanks for reading and I hope you have a great day!

    • He already did a YouTube video on this. On the Drive Tribe channel and it's called James May explains how to become a motoring journalist.

    • I haven't watched the video in a year but im pretty sure he went over that as well. I believe he said to make a YouTube channel and start doing videos and create a following for yourself. Which in turn makes you more desirable as journalist since...

  • How many times have you, Hammond, and Clarkson almost “accidentally” killed each other, either while filming or otherwise?

    • I’ve never ‘almost accidentally’ killed either of them. I’ve just failed.

    • Keep trying; I believe in you.
