Have a look, some have pretty massive (350,000+) miles but the one I posted is under 150k.

That said, while they're working the crews leave the engines running non stop, so the engine hours will be massive. But they are obviously scrupulously maintained
Its gotta be a US troop carrier able to run on any fuel. One thing people dont realize about those apocalypse movies is fuel will be gone after like 6 months... so that or *shudder*, an electric car you charge from panels on your home. Gotta play the long game ;)

Following up my latest post, I was wondering what you guys think the future of car buying holds. Obviously due to our situation, online is doing great, but what do you think?

Personally, I think (and hope) it will go back to normal.
Personally I hate the dealership model where salesmen are pushed to make me buy things I dont want. If it werent necessary to test drive a vehicle I'd want everything to be done online. Make it easy and dont make me sit there for hours over financing whilst you try to sell me "extended warranties" that cover meaningless things.
Agreed ^ I've seriously considered buying a car online lately. I had been planning to start shopping for a car by this time and I have more than enough saved for a down payment. But test driving is my concern really. Although one of the cars on my list I have driven before.

I agree! Granted, there is one out of 100 good salesmen. I still hate 99% of them, but I would much prefer to see a car in person before I make a true decision. Unless it is of course on a site like BaT, where they are very thorough in just about everything.
you're right about wanting to see everything in detail. I've noticed a lot of dealerships are taking the BaT method for their online descriptions which is great. It would be cool if you picked a car, showed up to do a little inspection/test drive on it, and could drive away if need be. Just leave it at that.

Another problem we ran into recently was that there is a lot of stuff on modern cars that need some explaining, especially for those who aren’t car nerds. Really, the easiest solution would be that car salesmen actually help you instead of push a car on you. Lately, I have been getting better at calling them out...

  • I had heard some local dealerships were doing no-touch test drives, some even bringing the car to your home, letting you drive it without a salesperson present, then coming back to pick it up later on. An interesting concept.
    Oooo I like that idea.
If more of these online retailers were doing that.....I might just end up with a Stinger GT. I just hope they come down just a little in price.

    I am a sucker for a Stinger...
Right now it's either that or a B8 S4. Stinger is definitely quicker, but the S4s are far easier to find though. I just really need to find something in the $25k range. Stinger GTs are almost there

Why I hate convertibles-there cool and fun people say. But convertibles suck. Hard tops have a lot of soundproofing material that most people don’t even notice. Then speed up and roll down your window. Notice how loud it is? In a convertible, wind, engine noise, and other cars passing you (because you spent all your money on the convertible part but it’s slow) is all really loud. That makes a conversation with your bro impossible because it’s like WHOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! If you want to listen to music, you have to crank it up much louder and make everyone else angry. You notice how you hear the booming bass in other cars when you walk around in the city? Well soundproofing roofs and windows make you not here the rest. But in a convertible, it doesn’t. And ragtops on a convertible make much more noise then regular roofs. The canvas top makes a sound like a tent in the wind on a barbecue. And ragtops are prone to rips and tears which just makes them louder. To fix that, you could get a folding hardtop but say goodbye to sweet sweet trunk space. Ha! It will have a “small trunk!” I know That was bad. Hehe. But convertibles also are good! They give you sun and wind through your hair. But I won’t always be 72° and sunny. And sunburn sucks. And so does windburn. Also, you are not the only thing that will degrade in a convertible. Fabric and cloth degrades much faster when exposed to wind water and heat or sun. And birds. We’re you hungry? Open up and a bird about 25 feet above you will take care of it. That’s another problem. Reupholstering interiors can be very expensive and not really convenient to say the least. And putting the top up and down can get really old after a while. And when it is nice on the highway and the roof is down, then it starts to rain when you pass to a different state, you have to look off the road to grab the roof and pull it back and lock it, which if you pull over to do that, then it takes longer to get to the destination. More rigidity means better handling, and the roof, the floor plan and the rocker panels. Without a roof it does not handle as well. So manufacturers make up for that by using box beams and other metal things that add weight. Sometimes more than 350 pounds. And just saying, convertibles will never be as stiff as regular cars off the road. And sometimes, it’s not the facts that make it dumb, it’s the looks! Have you ever seen a Nissan Murano Cross Cabroilet? It looks terrifying! Or the Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible! Can’t say differently! Or the Range Rover Evoque Convertible? What were they thinking????? And, you might be safe in a convertible with the pop-up roll bars, but your stuff isn’t. A convertible is a theft box. Anyone can grab something they want. Unless you don’t keep anything valuable in there. Like that would EVER happen. Also, maybe just the part that in a hard top convertible, they tend to have smaller back seats so that more trunk space is available to hold the roof. So now you have a small back seat, small trunk, and a lot of debt because hard top convertibles are very expensive. And, according to the Nationwide Blog, convertibles tend to be $5000-$9000 more expensive then a regular car. So take that in. You pay a lot, you have less space, more noise, more sunburn, more theft, more weight, more interior degrading, and worse handling. So yeah. I do not like convertibles. At all.

    Hey @tribe

Pretty simple “challenge” this week (although it isn’t really a challenge at all), go to your local Craigslist and find a car you might buy. It could be interesting, it could be dull, it could even have rose pedal seats for all we know. No price budget obviously, but let’s be real here! Anyway, find it, post it here, then you are off the hook! Good luck, and let’s see what you got!

I love a car in green. Even more so if it’s a 240Z dying for attention!
I really wish I was in a position to buy it, just a little and paint and some bits here and there and it's a bonafide weekend cruiser

In the long term I might look at rims, interior “cleansing” (although it looks like it needs more than that) and a simple engine rebuild if necessary. That way, I won’t be too scared to drive it

Also might want to see what’s going on with the rust
Definitely a full chassis inspection for rust - these cars were notorious for it

I know you said cars, but motorcycles are my main focus here. I saw this and am seriously thinking about grabbing it.

Bikes are definitely welcome! Those BMWs I hear are very comfortable. Go for it!
